Termination of Counseling:
Since the decision to begin counseling
is a joint one, it is important that termination of
services be a joint decision as well. Often the desire
to terminate counseling is fueled by an emotional
reaction or untested beliefs such as a feeling of
hopelessness or a belief that counseling is not helping
or will not help. Talking with your therapist regarding
issues of personal conflict, finances, and/or your
feelings will often avoid early termination of services.
You are urged to
terminate only at a treatment session, not by phone,
mail or simply failing to come to your appointment.
The face-to-face contact is very important so that
appropriate referrals may be made to other providers
if you are unhappy with my services. If for financial
reasons you need to see someone on a specific managed
care provider panel or specific HMO, I will do my
best to assist you in getting the services you need.
