Practice Policies
Medications:
Clinical Social Workers DO NOT PRESCRIBE
medications. However, there may be an occasion
in which a medication might be helpful, a referral
will be made to a psychiatrist in these cases. Consult
your provider manual or insurance carrier to ensure
the physician you select is a participating provider.
In some cases when waits are extended for an evaluation
by a psychiatrist, I would suggest you contact your
primary care physician, ob/gyn, or internist regarding
starting a medication until you can be seen by a psychiatrist.
I will communicate with your physician after proper
releases have been obtained to inform him/her of my
concerns, observations, and clinical evaluation. I
will work with your physician in monitoring your progress
with psychotherapy and pharmacological interventions
if this is necessary.
If you are currently taking any medications
prescriptioned , over the counter, or herbal remedies,
please inform your therapist of the name of the medication
and the dosage. Should you require a psychiatric consult,
I will provide you with a local referral list of physicians
who are familiar with my work. You can also contact
your health care insurance carrier for a listing of
physicians or a zip code identification of providers.
