Medical/Psychological Consultations
and Testing:
I request that every client I see in
psychotherapy have had a recent general physical examination
by a physician of their choice within the past year.
The examination should include blood work for thyroid
and blood sugar problems. This is my recommendation
as some medical conditions can present symptoms which
might be confused with symptoms found in psychological
disorders. If you are using alcohol, illegal or prescriptioned
drugs, please disclose your usage as psychological
disorders can not be as easily addressed whenever
these substances are involved.
Clinical Social Workers do not do psychometric testing
as a general rule.
I sometimes may request testing to better
clarify a diagnosis or in order to develop an appropriate
treatment plan. You will be referred to a Ph.D. psychologist
if I feel this is warranted. Most often it can be
scheduled within my office with one of my co-workers.
Please be advised that many insurance companies do
not cover the cost of psychological testing whenever
there is the possibility of a
developmental disorder or for academic intervention
within the school setting. Testing for learning disabilities
is available by contacting your teacher, school counselor,
city or county school board.
